(1) There will be a Fifth Day of Vassa Chanting led by Bhante Nyanaramsi at SJBA Shrine Hall tomorrow Saturday, 11th July 2009, 7.30pm. The Fifth Day of Vassa is very meaningful as on the Fifth Day after the Buddha taught the His First Sermon (Dhammacakkappavatthana Sutta) He taught the Anattalakkhana Sutta, after which all the first five disciples of the Buddha attained Arahantship. All are welcome.
(2) Pali Chanting practice will recommence on alternate Saturdays from 3pm to 5.30pm, starting on 11th July 2009 and then 25th July 2009. All are welcome.

PUJA ANNOUNCEMENTS (12th July 2009) |

(1) SJBA is organising an Introduction to Meditation Course conducted by Bhante Nyanaramsi from 24th July for 6 consecutive Fridays at 8.30pm at our Shrine Hall, followed by a 4 days Meditation Retreat. Bhante was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practising under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Bhante was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association's invitation to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. If you wish to join the Retreat as a yogi, helper or sponsor, please inform Sis. Lily at 03-56315299 or email to sjba@streamyx. com. Please refer to our Notice Board for further information.
(2) In conjunction with our 53rd Merdeka Celebration on 31st August 2009, SJBA will be presenting Academic Excellence Awards to those who have excelled in their 2008's examinations in UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM examinations. Please submit the application forms together with the certified result slips to SJBA before 31/7/09.
(3) SJBA is planning to visit the Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-kanak dan Kurang Upaya at Taman Andalas, Klang on 2nd August 2009, 3.45pm. The Home has about 60 children of different races, mainly Indian, who are orphans or handicapped like blind, deaf, dumb, etc. The Home is run by an Indian couple assisted by a few single mothers. Presently, they are in need of 5 wall fans, children pampers M, L and XL, Milo, Milk Powder, Lactogen 1 & 2, Dumex 456, Detergent, Floor Cleaner, Liquid Dettol, Soap, Shampoo, Cooking Oil, Soya Sauce, Eggs, Frozen Nuggets, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Fish, etc. If you wish to contribute these items or in cash donations to buy them, please contact Sis. Lily. In conjunction with this community service, we also plan foster better fellowship amongst our members by going there together by bus, and after distribution of goodies and interaction with the children of the Home, we proceed for dinner and sing-along session at the Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant, Klang. For this fellowship program, the cost is RM20/pax for adult and RM10/pax for children below 12 years, inclusive transport and dinner. If you wish to join us for the visit to the Home followed by fellowship dinner, please register with Sis. Lily too, on a first come, first serve basis.
(4) SJBA plans to erect a signage facial wall in front of SJBA Vihara. The cost is estimated to be about RM8,000. If you wish to sponsor this signage facial wall, please inform Bro. James at Tel. 019-6147445
(5) This morning's Dhamma Talk is on "The Planes of Existence" by SJBA's Dhamma Committee Chairman, Bro. Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the Kent Institute, United Kingdom and a Master of Design degree from Massey University, New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye had been the Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section for two sessions, and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He currently gives talks on the Dhamma at Buddhist centres around the country. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent Burmese and Malaysian meditation masters locally and in New Zealand.

(5) This morning's Dhamma Talk is on "Made in Heaven, Hell or on Earth", by Sis. Dr. Chan Kah Yein. Sis Kah Yein is a mathematics teacher and a keen supporter of animal welfare. She has a 1st Class Honours degree, a Masters degree and a PhD in Mathematics Education. She teaches tertiary-level mathematics in a private college. Sis Kah Yein is on a lifelong mission to promote charity to animals and believes that compassion is an inherent quality in us that binds us all as one, regardless of race and religion.

Do you have a problem with anger? According to the teachings of the Buddha, anger is one of the evil roots. How can we reduce the anger in us, and eventually eliminate it from our hearts and minds? Come and listen to this sharing on managing anger, the Buddhist way.
SPEAKER : Dr. Chan Kah Yein
Dr Chan Kah Yein obtained her B.Sc.(Hons)Ed with first class honours, M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Mathematics Education. Currently, she teaches tertiary-level mathematics in a private college in Subang Jaya. Sis Kah Yein enjoys sharing the Buddha Dhamma with friends, promoting kindness to animals, and embracing simplicity in her life.

(1) Rev. Sunantho will continue with his Dhamma Talk this afternoon (Sunday, 14th June). Rev. Sunantho comes from Brazil. He was ordained as a bhikkhu 5 years ago in Taiwan, in a Thai Temple, having as Preceptor the Most Venerable Phra Thep Waraporn, one of the highest Senior Monks in the Thai Mahasangha. He has been practicing Buddhism for 13 years and studied all the main Traditions. He had traveled widely throughout Asia and has been nominated the Representative of Brazil in the World Buddhist Summit. Do come and join us with your relatives and friends.

Kenny Chan, will conduct a Pali Chanting Workshop at SJBA Vihara on 19th and 20th June 2009, to teach proper chanting in Pali and to promote fellowship amongst Buddhists all over Malaysia through chanting.
