ANNOUNCEMENTS (20th January 2012, Friday)
1) We wish you and family a Happy Chinese New Year, Blessed with good health, happiness and success, Bestowed with good fortune and fulfillment, Filled with joy and happiness, Protected by the Triple Gem!
2) We wish to invite all members and devotees and your relatives and friends to join us at our “Gong Xi, Gong Xi” Potluck dinner on 4th February 2012 (Saturday), 7.30pm to 10pm, to celebrate the Chinese New Year together and promote fellowship as we enjoy the various program planned for the night together. You also have the opportunity to mingle with some old folks from the Old Folks Homes. You many bring along some food to share with others.
3) On 5th February 2012 (Sunday) our Sunday Dhamma School children, Youth Section and Teen Quest members will be making house calls to bring New Year greetings and songs, Buddhist hymns and good wishes to the hosts and family. Those who wish to invite them to your homes on 5th February, may book through Sis. Lily at Tel. 03-56348181.
4) This Sunday Puja Service will be off and will resume the following Sunday (29th January 2012), 9.30am.

Dhamma Talk on " The Qualities & Attributes of a Caring Friend" |

Fellow Brothers & Sisters in the Dhamma,
SJBA cordially invite you to a Dhamma Talk at our Shrine Hall, this Sunday, 10am on " The Qualities & Attributes of a Caring Friend" by Sayalay Paramacari.
In this Talk, Sayalay will share with us what the Buddha taught on the qualities of a good caregiver, care provider and friend. Do come and and have fun learning what the Buddha taught on our roles, duties and responsibilities as a caring friend!
SAYALAY PARAMACARI
Sayalay Paramacari started practising Vipassana Meditation (Mahasi method) based on the Four Foundation of Mindfulness (Maha Satipatthana Sutta) since April 1994 in MBMC, Penang. She obtained a Diploma in Buddhism awarded by The Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka in 1996 and had had attended retreats of the Mahasi tradition in various places in Malaysia & abroad and also attended & exposed to retreats of other traditions in Malaysia and abroad over the years.
Sayalay was ordained in the year 2008 by Sayadaw U Pyin Nyar Nanda of Chanmyay Yeikhta, Myanmar in Pyin Oo Lwin, Upper Myanmar. Before becoming a nun, Sayalay had been attached to BSN, Singapore Airlines, Federal Express Corporation, Pfizer & EBSCO. She had also worked as a Freelance Trainer specializing in Social Skills, Performance Development, Situational Leadership, 8 Step Coaching for Leaders of all tiers, Effective Communication Skills, Targeted Selection (to select an honest, sincere & suitable employee for a specified job designation) & Building High Performance Team.

3) This morning's Dhamma Talk will be given by Bro Teoh Kian Koon. Bro. Teoh graduated from University of Malaya in Civil Engineering in 1979. He had been a spiritual practitioner cum meditator since 1971. Since 2001, he has been sharing his understanding and experiences with serious and keen spiritual practitioners and others who are keen in their search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth, aging, sickness and death and all mental suffering

ANNOUNCEMENTS (29th December 2011, Thursday)
1) This year's Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat is now in progress until 6th January 2012. The Retreat is being conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre. If you wish to volunteer as helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses, eg air-tickets for the monks, please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181.
2) This New Year Countdown on this Saturday, December 31, will commence with a "Eat all you can for RM10/pax" durian party (RM5/pax for children and senior citizens) from 8pm to 10pm. New Year Eve Puja Service will commence at 10.05pm, followed by Blessings for a better new year by Venerable Members of the Sangha, Best New year Resolution Contest, Sing-along Buddhist Hymns, Aspiration and finally the Countdown. SJBA cordially invite all members and devotees to join in.
3) You are cordially invited by SJBA Chanting Farers to another session of Paritta Chanting at SJBA Shrine Hall on 4th January 2012 (First Wednesday of the Month), at 8.30pm to chant the Bojjhanga Suttam to apply this Paritta or protective sutta to ward off illness, trouble and danger as well as to promote good health, happiness and well being. This invocation and aspiration is in line with SJBA's mission of “Towards A Friendly and Caring Dhamma Centre”.
4) At this Sunday Morning Puja Service, Sayadaw U Sereinda will lead us in chanting and meditation to cultivate our mind and spirtitual well-being.

3) This morning's Dhamma Talk is on "The 31 Planes of Existence" by SJBA's Dhamma Committee Chairman, Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand.
